SiWAVE is an alternating sinusoidal oscillation platform, developed and manufactured in Germany by Tepro. The two halves of the platform move up and down alternately in a 5 to 28 Hz sine wave, mimicking the pattern of walking, without impact. Intensity is set by the position of the feet, from the zero point in the centre to the maximum at the edges. In Brazil, SiWAVE Brasil (Florianópolis/SC) sells the SiWAVE Multi BASIC and Multi PLUS models to physiotherapists, clinics, studios and gyms, with a tablet and an app with ready-made exercise programs. It is fitness equipment, for conditioning, balance and well-being in short sessions.
How it works
The platform has two halves side by side. When the left one goes up, the right one goes down, in an exact sine wave: the same alternating pattern as walking, without moving from the spot. The wave accelerates and decelerates smoothly instead of striking, so there is no impact.
The frequency ranges from 5 to 28 Hz on the tablet. The amplitude depends only on the position of the feet: close to the zero point in the centre the movement is smaller; close to the Max mark at the edges it is larger. There is no need to spread the legs or change the stance, and the amplitude does not depend on the user's weight.
According to the manufacturer, the alternating stimulus triggers involuntary muscle reflexes and activates many muscles at once, which works balance and postural control with little cardiovascular load. Exercises can be done standing, seated, supported or lying down.
